The Stella Project was developed so that no woman would go through her pregnancy and labor unsupported. A woman deserves to have caring support person with her during such an important time in her life. Many young women in the Milwaukee and surrounding communities are in need of such support with little or no ability to pay for these services.  

The Stella Project raises money to reimburse Professional Labor Assistants/Doulas,  at a highly reduced rate, for providing knowledgeable and caring support for these women. A Doulas presence has been linked to shortened labors, reduced  need for pain medications, and improvement in mother-infant interaction as well as many other benefits

Each women supported by The Stella Project will receive at least one prenatal visit, continuous labor support and a postpartum meeting.  Other services can be added at the discretion of each individual Doula based on the woman's needs.
